Long-term care
Planning for long-term care starts with reliable information.
Gather care information first, then consider how property decisions might fit. Fraser Health assesses care needs and explains access; we help with the home and the move.
For care assessment and access information
New clients can contact the Fraser Health Access Line: Home and Community Care. This is a Fraser Health service, separate from A Caring Move.

Where to begin locally
New clients can contact Fraser Health’s Home and Community Care Access Line or use its online telephone appointment form. Current clients should contact their Home Health team. A community health professional can explain assessment and access to services.
Publicly subsidized and private-pay pathways
Use Fraser Health’s process to explore publicly subsidized long-term care. For a private-pay enquiry, confirm access, services, costs and suitability with the provider and appropriate health professionals. Ask explicitly which funding arrangement applies rather than relying on who operates a residence.
Preferences, costs and waiting questions
- How will my needs be assessed, and who explains the outcome?
- How are location, personal preferences and a partner’s needs considered?
- Which costs are assessed, what is included and what is extra?
- Who explains the financial information required for my circumstances?
- Who should I contact if my situation changes while waiting?
- What support might help me remain at home while plans are uncertain?
- What should I do when an offer of a place is made?
Before making a decision about your home
Ask the appropriate care, legal, and financial professionals how your circumstances affect the timing and funding of a move. Do not assume that the home must be sold before you have explored these questions.
Keep property planning flexible when dates are uncertain. Ask about the costs and practical effects of keeping a home occupied, leaving it vacant, preparing it for sale or delaying a listing. Individual benefits and asset-planning questions belong with qualified advisers.
